Sustainable Water Wells & Farming in Uganda

H

The Urgent Challenge

Prolonged dry spells across rural Uganda left smallholder farming communities facing chronic crop failure, acute food shortages, and economic hardship. Surface water ponds dried up completely, forcing villagers to purchase expensive, untreated water transported by commercial trucks.

Our Ground Response & Direct Intervention

Hayaat Welfare Trust partnered with community engineers to drill a 120-meter deep water borehole powered by automated solar pumps. The facility feeds community water collection points and an efficient drip irrigation network supplying adjacent community farming plots.

Long-Term Community Transformation

“Now we cultivate vegetables year-round, provide water for our livestock, and our children have pure water right in front of their homes,” explains Hassan. The village now operates a sustainable agricultural cooperative, creating self-reliance and food security for over 850 residents.
